Homemade Hair Spray

Homemade Hair Spray
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 fresh lemons
  • 1 tablespoon of vodka or rubbing alcohol
Peel the lemons and chop them into thick wedges or chunks. Bring the water to a boil, boil for one minute, then reduce heat to simmering. Add the lemons and simmer until the lemons are soft and the liquid has reduced to about halfway.Remove from heat, cool and then strain out the lemon bits. Pour into a spray bottle and then add the vodka. Shake well and then shake each time before using. If it gets a little too sticky, just add a bit of water.

The vodka or rubbing alcohol is important to include since it will help keep things from going rancid, but this will only keep for 2 to 3 weeks so don’t make too much at one time. Also boiling the water first before adding the lemons will help keep the mixture from going bad because it sterilizes it first.

If the lemons are organic you can slice them into wedges with the peels on and boil, this is because there are no pesticides on the peel to worry about.

Herbal Hair Shine

Herbal Hair Shine

  • 1 cup distilled or spring water
  • 5-6 Tablespoons of dried herbs (choose one from the list below).
  • Ceramic/glass bowl or small pot
  • Plastic squeeze bottle
  • Small piece of un-dyed cheese cloth (optional)
Select two or three herbs.
HERBS FOR DRY HAIR:  Elderflower, clover, comfrey leave, burdock, chamomile, lavender, rose, and sandwood. These herbs not only encourage healthy hair, but they also smell great.

HERBS FOR OILY HAIR:  Lemongrass, peppermint. quassia chips, rosemary, white willow bark, cedar wood, cypress, sage, and patchouli are great for oily hair. They discourage the scalp from producing access oil.

HERBS FOR DANDRUFF:  Birch bark, nettle, peppermint, and white willow bark.

Bring water to a boil and pour over you herbs. Since you don't want actual bits of herbs in your hair, you can use a small piece of un-dyed cheese cloth to make a little tea bag. Place the herbs in the center of the cheese cloth, gather the edges together, and then tie the bag closed with a knot or a small piece of string. Pour your herbal mix into the container that is used for steeping and cover. Allow the mixture to steep for ten to thirty minutes. The longer you allow the herbs to sit the stronger the rinse will become. When it cools, you can pout the solution into a squeeze bottle for easy application.

After shampooing, pour the mix over your hair and massage gently into your scalp.

Note:  this product doesn't have a long shelf life. In fact, this recipe only yields enough for one treatment.
